The Great Flood of 1993 - Freight House
This photo shows the foot of Ripley St. during the Great Mississippi River Flood of 1993. The predicted crest of 22.2 ft on July 4th was easily surpassed thanks to continuing rains the following week, which saw the Mississippi peak at a record 22.63 ft. on July 9th. This broke the previous record of 22.48 ft. set on April 28, 1965.
Pictured in the background is the former freight depot of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railroad at 107 S. Ripley St.
