Brocton, IL: NKP(Cloverleaf) Water Tower

The existing track was the Cloverleaf. Central Avenue was the other railroad.

A bird's eye view of Brocton, Illinois around 1910, looking towards the northeast. The line running to the left of the water tower is the old Clover Leaf, which is still in service as the Eastern Illinois Railroad Company.

The line on the right is a little more interesting. Constructed in 1883, it was the Danville, Olney, & Ohio River Railroad. It didn't last long, going through a string of owners before being abandoned, as the Kansas & Sidell Railroad in the early 1930's. Very few photographs of this line exist today.

Here's how it looks today

The Kansas & Sidell being abandoned in the early 1930's would explain why there are no land scars or tree lines left on a satellite image. Fortunately, it is still very visible on a 1939 aerial photo. It looks like the brick plant was east of Boyer Avenue and south of where it crossed 1st Street.
