Sam Carlson posted In the background is the CB&Q Roundhouse, which I understand is gone now. Pete Kranz: Last of the roundhouse came down in '81. Last of anything, the old freighthouse (later car department) was taken down just in the last several years. Only thing left on the Milwaukee side is the old B&B building, which was part of that roundhouse complex. Today it's the CP yard office/terminal. Roundhouse there came down in '88. |

Dennis DeBruler commented on Pete's comment about the Q steamer and AD tower. I found the static display: https://maps.app.goo.gl/93JfpmF6TCAHo2Mm9 Pete Kranz: I see that Milwaukee, one of CB&Q's routes and the C&NW crossed there. |

Dennis DeBruler commented on Pete's comment about the Grand Crossing Tower. I see that Milwaukee, one of CB&Q's routes and the C&NW crossed there. 1963 La Crosse Quad @ 24,000 Pete Kranz: Dennis DeBruler originally, the GBW also crossed there, into the 1920's. Oak St is more or less over the Green Bay ROW, and the bike trail that runs north-south from River Rd to UWL is also Green Bay ROW. |
Update
Trent Briggs posted Lacrosse CB&Q Depot I believe this was served by L&SE via trackage rights on CB&Q. It was demolished in 1970. It was located at 2nd and Pearl Street (#200) Holiday Inn is now located on that site. Corrections welcome…. Mike Jamesson: THis is likely 2nd St. Downtown where the CB&Q passenger station was.. Right where Pearl and 2nd St meet at the La Crosse Center. The L&SE had a station near Green Bay St. Also near the Green Bay & Western station on Green Bay St . The L&SE did use the CB&Q tracs with rights to near Stoddard where their tracks began and they split off the CB&Q. The L&SE also had a station in Stoddard. That building is still there but repurposed from last I saw it. 😀 Robert T. Anderson shared Mike Bartels: Used until 1940 when passenger trains began using the new depot on the east side of town by the golf course. |
Dennis DeBruler commented on Trent's post The CB&Q had a small yard south of their depot. 1938 aerial photo, https://maps.sco.wisc.edu/WHAIFinder/#14/43.8279/-91.2656 |
