Andrew Dean Detroit is there a lot of freighter traffic the Saginaw River?

Dale Verhaeghe Last year we had quite a few come in, along with tug/combos. It seems down quite a bit this year. Check out Saginaw River Images - by Todd Shorkey, he gets great photos of most of them that come in to Bay City.

Dale Verhaeghe In 2020, there were 203 commercial vessel deliveries on the Saginaw River. As of today, we are 16 deliveries behind where we were last year as of today's date. Some days there can be three freighters on the river at the same time, or we can go five days in a row without seeing any frieghters.
The museum's web site did not have any info on the ship. That is because the ship has its own web site:
usssedsondd946 "USS Edson (DD-946) was a Forrest Sherman-class destroyer of the United States Navy, built by Bath Iron Works in Maine in 1958. Her home port was Long Beach, California and she initially served in the Western Pacific/Far East, operating particularly in the Taiwan Strait and off the coast of Vietnam. Her exceptionally meritorious service in 1964 in the Gulf of Tonkin was recognized with the first of three Navy Unit Commendations. Crew: 17 Officers, 218 Enlisted Armament: Three 5-inch/54 caliber guns; four 3-inch/50 caliber guns, two hedgehog throw ahead depth charge launchers, six 12-3/4″ Mark 32 torpedo tube" |
