David Partak: Originally C&A Springfield to Kansas City line, then GM&O, then ICG. Sold to investors forming Chicago, Missouri & Western, then when that folded up, another bunch of investors bought it and named it Gateway Western. And KCS bought that out for entry into Illinois. Then Canadian Pacific & KCS merged. Line has lots of business I hear.

Michael North: An 1890 patented Union switch & signal co. semaphore signal stands in service.
Richard Fiedler: Michael North the Alton installed those everywhere and most survived well past the ICG merger. We have a set from Elwood IL.

The CB&Q also went through this town.

We can see the track in the photo that angels east just south of the depot.

While verifying that the two jump-form silos we see in the photo are extant, I noticed that...

...there is also an old wood grain elevator still standing.

And the elevator has grown a lot since the above were built. In fact, these would be the jump-form silos that we see in the 1972 photo because the steel bins had not yet been built. That means the depot was south of those silos.

The depot was south of the water tower, so it was on the west side of the CB&Q tracks. Grant Street has been built on the former CB&Q right-of-way. https://maps.app.goo.gl/CvN7fPRqRJyXktPy8 (The GM&O depot was about a block south: https://maps.app.goo.gl/JAN76pzsFLSgMjHDA) 1937 Aerial Photo
