Feed Mill: (Satellite)
This aerial shows that there was a small addition on the west side. We can see that addition in Randy's photo. Also, it was all by itself on the north side of the tracks. So the photo is looking West.
The town also has a couple of large storage elevators.
Randy Bedore posted Is this a coaling tower or sugar beet dump/loading tower? Dave Martens shared Lance Burton: It's a sugar beet loader - check out this link for a similar facility at Somers - .https://somerspioneerhistory.blogspot.com/.../sugar-beets... - Beets used to be a common crop in Wisconsin, with several refineries.in operation. John Broeren commented on Randy's post I have a picture of that tower, but I don't know what it was used for. |
Larry Kraemer commented on Dave's share Beet loader at Van Dyne. |
SomersPioneerHistory "Sugar Beet harvest loading from farmer wagons to the railroad cars in Somers, Wisconsin. The sugar beets were "topped" or cut in the fields, and dug with a potato lifter. The beets were then hand thrown from the field to the wagon and oftentimes hand shoveled from the wagon to the railroad cars. (Source: Original photo courtesy of Ernest 'Bunkie' Tabbert.)" |

Dennis DeBruler commented on Jim's share It must have also served SOO trains. 1955/57 Neenah Quad @ 62,500 Jim Kelling: Dennis DeBruler I think you’re correct thanks |
With all of those small bins, this must be a feed mill. As with many feed mills that we have seen, it still has its wood grain elevator.
