Maine Central used to go through the town. Now the railroad reaches General Dynamics from the east using the Carlton Bridge.
Given the tracks in the background of the posted image, I think it was south of today's Commercial Street. I'd say it was the west rectangle on the photo because the shadow indicates it is the taller building, and the shadow and roof appear to have a bump in the middle.
The trackside of the depot looks fancier.
