When I looked for a street view that had better lighting, I discovered that the restoration was done during the past year.
I read "Ninth St" on Jim's photo, so I searched for the station starting from the north side of town. I found two other buildings that obviously used to be gas stations.
This one has been extensively remodeled. Specifically, they filled in the big, overhead doors. I think it was a filling station because it is on a diagonal with respect to the street corner and because we can still see the foundation for the pump island.
Union Station

Kansas Travel at KansasTravel.org posted Union Station in Salina, Kansas in the 1910s. Dennis Hukill: That is a very large station. I wonder just why it was that size. Were there intersection rrs that met there?? How many passenger trains a day? Did the trains have to be serviced there to continue on to their destinations.
Lannie Mack: Salina had several railroads in town. I know the Mopac had their own depot, but maybe the Santa Fe and Rock Island also use this depot besides the UP |
Union Pacific passed the station on the north side and Santa Fe & MoPac passed it on the south side. It looks like the Rock Island terminated here.
