Alton, IA: Lost C&NW and Omaha Union Depot

(Satellite, according to the topo map below, the depot was west of the CMO and south of the C&NW.)

A combined "union" depot of the C&NW with the one time "Omaha" at Alton, Iowa in October 1967.  Alton is located about 20 miles to the northeast of LeMars, Iowa in the west part of the state.  The Photo is from the Lou Schmitz collection.

The east/westish route was the C&NW and the north/south route was the Omaha (Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis & Omaha (CMO)). According to the 2004 SPV Map, UP now has the Omaha route.
