Macon, GA: 1916 Union Depot

The 13-acre station was owned by the Macon Terminal Company, which in turn was owned equally by the Central of Georgia, the Southern Railway, and the Georgia Southern & Florida. Each of these companies, along with the Georgia Railroad, had offices on the upper floors. Other railroads using the station were the Macon, Dublin & Savannah and the Macon & Birmingham.
In 1926-27, the station handled as many as a hundred arrivals/departures each day. The eight tracks for through trains and ten tracks for local trains had platforms between each track. The through tracks were connected by a tunnel. [RailGA]

Looking at a satellite image,  it is not obvious where those 18 tracks were. Amtrak must not serve this town because I don't see even one platform left.

Macon Terminal Station

I had called this Union Station since the station served about six railroads. Some of them must have terminated there; because even though it is a through station, its correct name is Macon Terminal Station.

Note the separate, but undeniably unequal entrance to the colored waiting room.

The Beam balance at the Macon Terminus of Macon, Dublin and Savannah Railroad, now the Georgia Central. It is supposed to be an active railroad, but it seemed to be quite deserted.
