A backshop with longitudinal tracks instead of transverse is very unusual. Note it takes two overhead cranes to move a locomotive. With a transverse arrangement either one overhead crane with two hooks or an outside transfer table can be used to move the locomotives.

The roundhouse remnants.
The MKT had three "spokes" on the north side and two on the south side. This helped me find the depot's location and taught me to look for evidence of a roundhouse.
