Dennis DeBruler Given the word "Shortlines" in the group title, it is worth noting that this town still has both of its railroads because Bloomer Lines operates the former IC route and the new TP&W operates the former TP&W route.

Not only does this illustrate that a grain elevator was generally the other major building built in a new town, this grain elevator appears to be still standing!

Here's something a little different -- a before and after!

The Santa Fe donated caboose #999654 to the town of Chatsworth, Illinois, in 1987, who wished to have the car painted back into its original look at Toledo, Peoria & Western #523. The Bloomer Shippers Connecting Railroad helped to repaint the caboose. It saw excursion use on both the Bloomer and reincarnated TP&W, before being put on display a few years around the mid 1990's.

As for these two photos, the pre-repaint is likely around the winter of 1987, putting the post-repaint a year or two later. Both were taken along the Bloomer Line in town.
