Carol Stream, IL: CGW Depot

Brian Watt: Dandy little station! Bet that cement plant behind it poured a lot of western suburban basement....
Steve Johnson: Are you certain of the date? I didn't think the Gretna name was changed to Carol Stream until 1963 or very late '62 at the earliest.
Arthur House: I was living nearby in Glen Ellyn at the time the photo was taken. We lived in the very north end of the village and the CGW was just about a mile away. Late at night, every night, they ran a long westbound freight. From our porch you could hear the big lash-ups of F units roaring across the then-empty prairies for miles and miles. Of course the entire region has long been submerged in suburban development and the Great Western is more than a half century gone. But in my memory, I can still hear that long night freight’s westbound passage.
Mel Harrison: This little depot was featured in Model Railtoader back in the late sixties to early seventies. There was a three view drawing for modrling purposes.

I presume the depot was in the southwest quadrant of the tracks and Gary Avenue. The depot was obviously not in the town's downtown. Does Carol Stream even have a downtown?
