(
Satellite, just north of 11th St. extended and east of the tracks. (Google Maps broke their pin dropping in Jan 2024.))
It controlled the connection to the
former Rock Island Bridge and some crossovers. Crossovers between the CP/Milw and BNSF/CB&Q tracks still exist.
John Harker
posted four images with the comment: "BL Bud Bulgrin captured this scene with a Milw Northern Division freight headed south past the Newport, Minnesota tower on September 15th,1984. For those of you in the know, could this be train #202 which was scheduled to leave St Paul’s Pig’s Eye Yard around 11:00 am. A Milw 1984 202 train schedule and employee timetable along with a USGS topo map segment are included for reference. John Harker image editing and collection"
Mike Cleary: Looks to be too early to be 202, which actually seemed to leave St. Paul around noon or shortly after. Looks like ballast cars behind the power so likely an extra, maybe a 498.
Fred Hyde: Agreed, Mike Cleary. At this time of day it also could be a slightly late #223, which I chased many times out of St. Paul until sunlight ran out.
