Antrim, MI: Antrim Iron Co. Blast Furnace

(Satellite)

I knew the upper peninsula had a lot of iron ore. Evidently, the lower part also had some. And I know that Michigan had a lot of trees because Michigan and Wisconsin supplied all of the lumber that was shipped through Chicago to the Plains States.

Jeremiah DeJesus posted four photos with the comment:
Well, a little piece of Michigan ironmaking history. Photos of one of many blast furnaces in Michigan at the time. Not only that but it was an open top blast furnace that burned Charcoal. The small community of Antrim was formed originally as a company town of the iron works, the first owners originally naming it Furnaceville. Only small remnants of the furnace, a foundation and an outbuilding, still stand.
