Wesley Peters: The second elevator in the background is still standing as of 2025. It was built for Sanborn & Co. in 1881. It has a 16,000-bushel capacity. Pretty amazing that it is still around today.

At first, I had trouble finding it because I was looking along the former mainline. Then I noticed on this map that the elevators are built along an industrial spur.

Location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/MsS1qxCAhs8EKjHo7 An Aug 2012 street view shows a "Heritage Museum" sign on the side of the building. That would help explain why it has survived this long. I wonder how much of the interior has been preserved.

I saw the power pole in the background of the above photo, so I checked it out because that is a rather high voltage line. The trail is the Pecatonica Prairie Path.
