Matt Chase posted Did you know,. 🤔 The New Haven in 1903 was considered a splendid property. It boasts the longest consecutive dividend record of any railroad in the country-at least eight percent had been paid every year since the company’s formation in 1872. Its stock was the prime trust investment of New England and sold usually at $200 or more per share. Of 189 saving banks in Massachusetts, 186 held its securities. Under Morgan control-its total capitalization was but $93,000,000 and only management could readily overcome it. During the ten years following 1903, under the expansive management of Morgan, Mellen and their associates, the capitalization was to be increased by $324 million, or 348 percent. This was a great sum in those days; Notes ; 1909.NEW HAVEN CT - N.Y.N.H. & H.R.R. Railroad Station Postcard - 1909 The friends of Cedar Hill yard New Haven railroad collection |

New York, New Haven and Hartford had a small railyard down by the station, but their big Cedar Yard was on the other side of Mill River. The small railyard is still used by Kawasaki Rail Car and Metro North.
