Totz, KY: Coal Mine and CSX is rebuilding a former L&N route

Tipple: (Satellite)
Strip Mine: (Satellite) This appears to be another example of removing a mountain top to get to the coal.

Picture This; W089 rounds the curve through Totz and past 4th Gen Fuels Totz prep plant, owned and operated by the Bennetts. Trailing behind the units are 67 cars of loaded rock that will be dumped across the Poorfork amidst recent efforts to renovate the entire branch. Over 144k ties are due to be replaced, new rail is to be put in, and the entire thing reballasted. This particular train made it from Lynch to Rhea dumping the rock before running out, prompting an order for a second rock train to finish the job that would do so earlier this week. CSX is obviously anticipating a traffic increase off the branch, something in which we shall keep our eyes on in the near future. Totz, Ky, April 22nd, 2025.
Ted Gregory: That's awesome. Which way would that coal go? Clinchfield? L&N? C&O?
Micah Turner: Ted Gregory From Corbin it would either go towards Gary, Indiana, for US Steel, the Great Lakes for the Cleveland Cliffs contract, or to Newport News, Virginia, for export overseas. 🙂

Bev-Brody Bragg: I got an email recently that said cars were being pulled from storage to handle the uptick in coal sales.
Michael Atkins: We are about to sell more coal to India than what we got.
