Dennis DeBruler shared Jeremy Harris's photo and comment:
An old coaling tower still in the Ludington Yard! Caution got into some serious thorns getting some of the shots of this tower!!

Since this photo was taken its been closed off with a dirt berm and numerous no trespassing signs. You can still get descents shots of it though.
It looks like the two chutes have become detached from the structure. It is kinda hard to imagine how it was supposed to look. I sure would not want to get very close to this one.
She's stabilized now but every time we go down there with the engine to run around the trains I wonder if it will be enough to make it fall over.
Built by Fairbanks-Morse Company, 500-ton capacity.

Tom Carter posted Wyoming Yard C&O electrician Dick Blakely Photo was facing basically east when he took this shot of the C&O Ludington, Michigan, roundhouse in April of 1965. Dick took the photo from the top of the sand tower, which was just west of the roundhouse. Freight cars fill the yards to the left, too. |
Zac Winstead
posted four photos with the comment: "The Pere Marquette Depot just to the east of Madison St in Ludington, MI and the coal tower in the distance. Just to the west of here is where the
Pere Marquette rail ferries were loaded. One of those ferries sits here for Parts (The Spartan) the other (The Badger) is in WI for repairs before the car ferry season. The badger has a new loading dock you can see here, which is much better than the one that collapsed a couple years back."
