Chicago & North Western Historical Society posted Here we have a closely similar photo of the C&NW depot as seen almost 50 years after the photo which was taken in the early 1910s which was posted here yesterday. This is an Ed Selinsky photo taken in July 1948. |

Chicago & North Western Historical Society posted We "are" in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, in the very early 1930s. The reverse of the photo says that this train is on it's way to Green Bay. The "Northwestern Hotel" behind the locomotive is said to have been a "beanery" for rail crews. The photo is from the Todd Werner collection. Joseph Heuer: What's great is that someone is currently restoring the station now [Oct 2024]. Looking in a lot better shape now. |
The location of the station is clearly marked on this topo map. That made it easy to find it on a satellite map.

Wisconsin Central Depot
John Pickard posted Borrowed from the Soo Line Historical & Technical Society Group! Fondulac, Wisconsin Thomas Markielewski: This was originally a Wisconsin Central Railway depot, built before the Soo Line leased the original W.C. back in 1909. Sadly, it no longer exists. I believe it was on Brooke Street, not too far from the still-existing C&NW depot, which is the only remaining depot in Fond du Lac between the Soo, the C&NW, and the Milwaukee Road. The road number on the GP9 looks like 2555, which would make it a W.C. unit. Photo is from the 1950s, before the 1961 merger which would see the Minneapolis, St. Paul & Sault Ste. Marie (the original full name of the "Soo LIne"), the Wisconsin Central, and the Duluth, South Shore & Atlantic combined into the Soo Line Railroad.
