Wanatah Indiana:
The tower and Monon station at Wanatah. This was the PRR "Fort Wayne" main line that was the famous "Broadway Limited" route while the Monon was their main line to Michigan City Indiana.
The PRR line today is the regional road, Chicago Fort Wayne & Eastern Railway while the Monon line was abandoned by Seaboard System in 1980
Dennis DeBruler The town had a flour mill, so that must be the "mill" building in the center. http://www.wanatah.org/land.php Dennis DeBruler While researching what type of mill that building was, I came across a page of more photos. Note that it includes an interior shot of the tower. http://www.monon.monon.org/bygone/wanatah.html |
These are notes I am writing to help me learn our industrial history. They are my best understanding, but that does not mean they are a correct understanding.

Wanatah, IN: Junction Tower and Monon Depot
(Satellite) The old Monon right-of-way is easy to follow through town because it went straight north/south. It appears President Abraham Lincoln's Funeral Train is parked on a remnant of the Monon.
