Stockholm, SD: Wood Grain Elevator

(Satellite)

In its day, this was a rather big country elevator. The railroad is BNSF/Great Northern

An interesting collection of old tractors. It looks like at least some of them are still used.

Given the feed mill, I wonder if the elevator is still active.

And I wonder if these old gas pumps are still used. If so, do they have to multiply the indicated price by 10? That would make the decimal point digit worthwhile.

Wolf Point, MT; Two wood grain elevators, then there was a fire, now there's one

Given the steel bins in the photos below, I think the one on the right is the one that burned.

[Some comments indicate it has not been used for over 10 years. The fire started in the office so some comments speculated that some homeless people lit a fire for warmth, and it got out of control.]
Christopher Jordan Lindsay Sr.: Bums running out of buildings to burn for real in this town, I believe homeless shelter is in the works as we speak.

Dennis DeBruler: Thom Fuhrmann This is the other wood elevator in Wolf Point. The one that burned is east of this elevator.
Thom Fuhrmann: Dennis DeBruler thanks for the clarification.

The Great Northern served this town. Note how the river had meandered. I compared this map to a contemporary satellite image, and it appears that a meander has wiped Oldtown off the map.

Today's Amtrak depot looks like a farmer's shop building rather than a train depot.

On the east side of town, there is a modern elevator that is rail served.

Piqua, OH: Pennsy (Panhandle) and B&O/CH&D Depots and Junction Tower

Pennsy+B&O Depot: (Satellite, it was in the northwest quadrant of the tracks (today's river's Edge Trail) and Wayne Street. I found this on the detailed topo map at the bottom of these notes.)
B&O Depot: (Satellite, I found this on the aerial photo below.)
Tower: (Satellite, according to the aerial photo below, it was in the northwest quadrant of the crossing. Back then, the road bent and was further North.)

Note that the Pennsy tracks used to be elevated through town.

"Built 1914, Penn Station at 110 N. Wayne was the largest passenger depot in the area. It closed in 1960 and was demolished in 1969."

reddit

Originally, CH&D had the Piqua & Troy Branch so that it could share Pennsy's depot and serve some industries in town. When the Pennsy elevated its tracks, the B&O built its own depot by its mainline. [jonroma]

This must have been the Pennsy depot before the tracks were elevated.

The original depot was built in 1893 and moved to Union City, IN, in 1912. [west2k]

This is the "shack" that B&O built when they had to move out of the Pennsy station.
Bill Haines posted three photos with the comment: "This location is Piqua Crossing on the east side of Piqua, OH where the B&O Toledo Div crossed the PRR Columbus-Chicago main. The train is No. 53 and is making a station stop at the small shelter which replaced the B&O depot. There's now a shopping mall on the right. The road you see has been moved to the south and the former PRR right of way is now a trail. The tower, where I spent many hours as a kid and later worked as an operator, was torn down in the late 80s or early 90s. These pics were taken by the late Doug Vogler in Oct 1965."

I thought the above photos was missing the belts that would come down from the ceiling to the main drive shaft. But this photo shows that the line shaft runs along the floor behind the roller mills.

Bob Summers posted four photos with the comment: "Lindsborg Kansas had this early flour mill on the Smoky Hill River. Originally a water powered “grist mill” using mill stones, was rebuilt as a “roller mill” after the original was destroyed in a fire. No grain elevator remains. Is open daily for tours."
Dennis DeBruler: I see from the photos on Google Maps that a lot of the belts for the line shafts were added as part of the restoration that was completed in 1981. https://maps.app.goo.gl/mzbhcHmn79ZwTxdz8
