Jersey City, NJ: Pennsy Harsimus Cove Railyard

(Satellite, all of the land east of Marin Blvd between Today's Thomas Gangemi Drive and 2nd Street was part of the yard. The treeline to the west of Marin Blvd along 6th Street was the freight mainline into this yard.)

When I think of Pennsy and Jersey City, I think of Greenville Yard. But that was another Pennsy freight yard in Jersey City.

Evidently Erie also used the Harsimus Cove name. But the photo shows that the mainline was electrified and that the river was in the distant background, so I think the Google Maps Harsimus Cove neighborhood is the correct interpretation of the name. In fact comments about Pennsy's two bridges across the Hackensack River explain that the northern route was their freight line to their Harsimus Cove Yard while the southern route was their passenger line to Exchange Place. We can see the train shed for their passenger ferry in Exchange Place in the above photo just a little right of center in the background. (And to the left of the water tower.)
