Sabina, IL: Wood Grain Elevator and IC/HR&E Depot

Elevator: (Satellite)
Depot: (Satellite, the northeast quadrant of the road and the tracks.)

This town was on the IC Branch of Havana, Rantoul and Eastern Railroad (HR&E), which was abandoned in 1943.

I learned that Bing Maps has better coverage than Google Maps, at least for this town.

The Havana Rantoul & Eastern Railroad.
The Havana, Rantoul & Eastern Railroad (HR&E) was a narrow gauge railroad company incorporated in Illinois in January 1873. Nicknamed the "Punkin Vine," it aimed to provide competition to the Illinois Central Railroad's freight rates. Construction started in 1875, with the line reaching its full 74.69 miles of trackage from Leroy, Illinois to West Lebanon, Indiana by 1879.

John Petit: when did it get converted to standard gage?
Erik Coleman: John Petit it was converted to standard gauge when the IC purchased it around 1886. Fun fact, they were able to convert the gauge in a single day work blitz!

Mark Fuller: I can’t see any RoW in Google Maps. Where was this? Was this a branch line?

It is now just a boundary between farm fields. 1952/53 Arrowsmith Quad @ 62,500

This branch was built as the Havana, Rantoul & Eastern RR

Given the grain elevator in the background of the above photo, I think the depot was the black rectangle that was in the northeast quadrant of the road and tracks.
