Greg Shook: It was the B&O Buckeye Branch. About 1 mile was kept intact in 1969 to serve the former McNally Pittsburgh plant. Later after McNally Pittsburgh closed the operation, Refco Refractory used the spur for about 10 years before RESCO bought out REFCO and closed the Wellston operation. This line served several coal mines and Buckeye Furnace Charcoal Furnace. The proposed Salt Creek Railroad, which preceeded the Hocking Valley Senic Railroad tried to preserve the line to Buckeye Furnace. However, B&O had sold the track for scrap. Currently used for car storage. |
