Depot

William Brown posted
From the G Quinn Collection, the Pioneer Zephyr is stopped at St Joseph, Missouri in November of 1956.  Mail is being unloaded in the RPO compartment.  The Outbound Mail is on the cart next to the Buffet Door.  The WW2 Troop Sleeper/Express Boxcar had a pair of carts staged.  The entire Pioneer Zephyr weighed 208K pounds.  A 5150 CuFt Covered Hopper weighs 286K pounds loaded.  No information on the photographer.
William Franckey: I don’t believe that’s the Pioneer 9900, cab windows are not right.
Mike Gleason: The Mark Twain Zephyr.
Mike Bartels: The Pioneer Zephyr and the Mark Twain Zephyr ran between Galesburg, West Quincy and St. Joseph as local trains and the St. Joseph connection to the Kansas City Zephyr. In August 1957 the Pioneer was shifted to the Lincoln-St. Joseph run, its last assignment, while Mark Twain went back to St. Louis-Burlington to wind up its career. A motor car and coach now ran between Brookfield and St. Joseph.

The topo map did not help locate the depot. The depot would be north of where the route from the East joined the route from the South. So I think it is that building along 8th Street and south of Mitchell Ave.

Fertilizer Transload From Barge and Rail

Note the swing bridge in the left background. I presume they can also handle containers in this railyard because of the yellow critter in the middle foreground. The barge dock shows that the Missouri River is navigable at least this far upstream. The clamshell crane shows that they unload barges here. I think the low conveyor behind the high conveyor is for loading barges. I'm guessing that the building holds dry fertilizer instead of grain.

They also go rail to truck.

Grain Storage

The cranes indicate the the grain elevator is still growing.

Note that the sidings hold tank cars instead of hopper cars. In fact, the railyard that used to serve this elevator has a bunch of tank cars instead of hopper cars.

This facility could use tank cars, but it rail siding doesn't look like it has been used in a long time.
