1955 aerial I included the river for orientation because the streets have changed so much. The depot is near the lower-left corner. [AR1VDG000100032] |

Josh Dulak: What's sad is 90+ percent of this rolling stock is unused and stored. A far cry from the significance of what this yard held back in the days when GM was operating in Janesville. A few years ago they were cutting up cars down near the overpass using track 15 (the 3rd track from the right side of this photo) |

This photo is of a railroad roundhouse with wood-burning locomotives.
the location was of the Chicago and North Western Roundhouse in south Janesville.
The site is situated at the Back of the yards on the south side of the town. It has long since been demolished, as evidenced by the aerial photograph we shared. Some remnants of the foundations remain visible. This area is now part of the Union Pacific Railroad.
Richard Shulby: GREAT PHOTOS! Thanks for posting! Minor corrections though. I believe you'll find that the first 2 photos are of the first 18-stall C&NW RH located further north just south of the extant CM&StP RH at 42°40'32.67"N 89° 2'1.97"W, gone by 1915. The aerial of the foundation and the postcard view are of the 2nd C&NW RH located at 42°38'54.81"N 89° 0'29.59"W.
