View of the new Amtrak passenger depot at the Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin in 2025. The station, built in 1989, is a replica of the former Milwaukee Road depot at the Wisconsin Dells that was heavily damaged in a freight train derailment in 1982. (Keith Pokorny Photo) |

Michael Decker commented on Jim's post Here's the one that got whacked by the BN coal train. When I lived there, I was told that it had been the 'Hop Shed' before it was the depot, but I can't prove that. |
A topo map marks the location of the old depot.

(I couldn't get an aerial photo because I kept getting "500 Internal Server Error" responses for https://maps.sco.wisc.edu/WHAIFinder/#13/45.1578/-89.1753.)
Update: rebooting my computer got rid of the 500 response.

posted three photos with the comment: "Three photos of the depot at Wisconsin Dells, WI on July 4, 2018. If I remember the story correctly, a Soo Line freight train derailed here and damaged the depot exactly 36 years to the day in 1982, which prompted the demolition and was rebuilt as a replica to an MILW depot in 1989. (Might need some correction?) The building is now open for the Empire Builder and more recently Borealis service."
