Here we are at the Union Station in Sherman, Texas
This was where the Frisco Passenger would catch and disembark from when it was built in 1909 near Mulberry and East Street.
It was built by Compton & Walston of Waxahachie, Texas at a cost $8,200
It also served the Texas & Pacific and the Houston & Central Texas.
In 1943 passenger service here was discontinued and it was demolished in 1944.

The depot was gone before any of the aerial photos were taken. But this aerial shows that the tower was in the northwest quadrant of the crossing.
The Missouri-Kansas-Texas (Katy) and St. Louis Southwestern (Cotton Belt) Railroads terminated in this town.

The Houston and Texas Central became part of the Southern Pacific. The Cotton Belt disappeared. And the Frisco was built to this town.

Did the Frisco have trackage rights on the MKT so that it could continue North and then continue on its own route north of the Red River?

That would explain how the BNSF has a through route through Sherman today.
Sherman Union Station served passengers for the H&TC (SP), Frisco, and T&P. After it was closed in late 1943, Frisco and T&P used their freight depots for passenger service. SP had ceased passenger service through Sherman in 1935.
ReplyDeleteCotton Belt and Katy had separate depots and did not use Union Station.
The Cotton Belt depot still exists. It was also used by Santa Fe (GC&SF) mixed trains from Wolfe City by virtue of trackage rights.
The T&P depot still exists and is used by DGNO (Dallas, Garland and Northeastern).
By the way, Tower 16 survives in nearby Grapevine TX as part of the heritage railroad structures in that town.
