More specifically, it was where the B&O (formerly Cincinnati, Hamilton & Dayton) crossed the Erie and Big Four. NS now owns the Big Four route. The Erie route, which was north of the Big Four route, and the B&O routes are now gone. I highlighted the B&O route in yellow.

The piers for the B&O bridge across the Mad River still exist:

This is Tate’s Point on the east side of Dayton. This was where the B&O crossed the NYC and EL (Erie) joint trackage. The crossing was controlled by NYC.

The B&O branch was known as the Wellston Sub which ran from north Dayton to Wellston, Ohio.

Today the Wellston Sub is a paved greenway for bicycles and joggers, the Erie side of the double track has been removed, and the tower is long gone.

At least some of these photos are new.
