Randall Hampton: The passenger station is peeking out from behind it. |
It looks like the waiting room of the depot was turned into a fancy reading room, but I was not able to find any good interior photos of it.
Evidently Erwin is on the Appalachian Trail.
While looking for the depot, I noticed a piece of Maintenance of Way (MoW) equipment parked on a siding. I'm guessing that it is some sort of ballast cleaner. I'm glad to see that CSX does have some serious MoW equipment because activist investors don't like money to be "wasted" on maintenance. I noticed that all of the ballast looks nice and white.
Actually, it appears that CSX has a maintenance shop for MoW equipment in this town.
There is a lot of MoW equipment parked on the other side of that backshop. In fact, is that too much? Why aren't they fixed and back to work?
