After setting empty for 20 years, it was restored and opened again in Feb 2025. [AdvertiserGleam]
The NC&StL used to use a ferry service on the Tennessee River that went to Hobbs Island. See "US-431 George Houston Bridge and NC&StL Ferry at Guntersville, AL" for more information about the ferry service.

The railroad still comes to town because, looking at a satellite map, there are some rail-to-barge facilities here.
