Herscher, IL: Grain Elevator and IC Depot

Elevator: (Satellite)
Depot: (Satellite. it was between the mainline and the house track.)

This town was on the IC branch of Kankakee & SouthWest (K&SW).

I don't subscribe to the American-Rails group because it is normally just railfan photos. So Facebook must have suggested this one. For once, I'm glad it did make a suggestion, or I would have missed two wood grain elevators.

When I noticed that CN/IC retained enough of its Otto Branch to serve the current elevator, I decided this town was worthy of some notes. The branch now extends to the next county road so that it has a lead to serve the elevator.

This is the second town in two days where the street car driver did not go down the side roads. (Milford was the first.) I may take that as an omen that it is time for a road trip.

After looking at the aerial photo, I see that a square was placed between the mainline and house track on the east side of Main Street.
