Gilberts, IL: C&NW Depot and Water Tower

Depot: (Satellite, it is interesting that the depot was across the tracks from the town.)

Andrew Roth: The photo also shows the Elgin & Belvidere electric interurban railroad immediately to the left of the C&NW. The overhead trolley wire to the left of the depot. The electric line's combined depot and electric substation building can be seen in the distance just to the left of the C&NW water tank. The C&NW train is eastbound heading to West Chicago and then on to Chicago.

The interurban was probably abandoned by 1939.

MP 50.8 Belvedere Sub; this picture is probably older than 1910 seeing the high-tech water facility

I had to give up trying to determine the location of this depot. Nothing stands out as a rectangle (depot) and dot (water tower) in this 1939 aerial photo. It looks like this Illinois town never had a grain elevator.

A 1946 aerial photo didn't help. [AR1CB0000070040]
