Wyanet, IL: Lost/CB&Q+RI Depot

(SatelliteI think this was the foundation of the depot.)

This town is on the Chicago-Galesburg-Denver mainline route.

Larry Candilas posted three photos with the comment: "Wyanet IL - unique two-level station SW of town in the early 1900s. CB&Q on the upper level and Rock Island on lower. Looks to be gone in late 1930s aerial"
Dennis Curless: I wonder how the autos got to the station. Especially when you look at a google map.
Carl J. Marsico: Dennis Curless Probably intended for passengers to go from one RR to the other. If anything, auto traffic is what would have killed this station.
This is also the location of the proposed connection between the former CB&Q and RI for Chicago - Quad Cities passenger service...assuming that ever happens....

Ken Morrison: Can't even see a vestige of a road to it, much less that it's WAY out of town, especially considering the state of personal transportation at that time or before... Late 30s aerial shows regular depots in Wyanet proper.

  1. You have a gift for finding remote and almost unknown towns in Illinois. More than the tele-spam-marketers, and you blow the weather-forecasters into the weeds (where the good stuff usually is anyway).
