Baylis: (Satellite, it was between Railroad Street and the tracks just east of Locust Street.)
This town has fertilizer supply, but no grain storage. I note that I can't find a grain elevator in the 1939 aerial.

1939 Aerial Photo from ILHAP Dennis DeBruler commented on William's comment I don't know the MP numbers on this line, but it was looking east. The depot was a little east of the foot of Jackson Street. And, as the boxcar confirms in the photo, there was a house track behind the depot. https://towns-and-nature.blogspot.com/.../kinderhook-il... |

This is another town that Wabash bypassed in order to improve the grade of their route. (Barry was another.)

Bill Crips posted Wabash Baylis depot now used as a residence. James Holzmeier: Billy you are a godsend! I have seen a postcard pic of the depot after the line was abandoned thru the town, and in the postcard it appears as though the station was being jacked up to move somewhere. Now it's confirmed! Thank you again!! Bill Crisp: James, I had heard from the old heads that a depot was located on the new line. I wonder if they moved the depot to the new line, then moved it to farm where it sits today. No one was home when we stopped yesterday. Richard Fiedler shared |
The grain elevator did not survive, but the town does have a bird shop!

The wood grain elevator was replaced by some jump form silo,s and a couple of steel bin complexes further south provided more expansion. Note the fertilizer storage tanks on the right.
