Clio, MI: Museum/Pere Marquette Depot

(Satellite)

Street View, Jul 2024

Durand Union Station-Michigan Railroad History Museum posted two photos with the comment:
Today’s featured depot is the Pere Marquette station in Clio.
In 1861, the railroad constructed a line through Clio to Flint. In 1873, the depot was built, and Clio became a village. If it weren’t for the railroad, Clio likely wouldn’t even exist today - it can be argued the Pere Marquette Railroad was one of the most important factors in the development of its identity as a town.
The depot was used by the railroad until 1960. It was then used as a laundromat for a few years. In 1977 the depot was purchased by the Clio Area Historical Association and was renovated in the 80s to become a museum. On June 20, 1983, the Clio depot was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
The depot is still a museum, known as the Clio Depot & Museum. The Clio Area Historical Association still manages the depot and its operations.
