Lacon, IL: GM&O/C&A Depot and Cargill Grain Elevator

(Satellite)

John Burt posted
C&A Depot in Lacon. 1923.
Ron Hatch: What's left of the depot is now a snack shack at the boat landing
Ken Hejl: The rails went a couple blocks south of Rt.17 and ended at the old woolen factory.

I knew that the Chicago & Alton went to Streator. I did not realize that it went further west all the way to Peoria by using TP&W's route to gain access to Peoria. https://idot.illinois.gov/.../1928-historic-rail-map.pdf

I included the grain elevator that we see in the background of the photo and what must be the old woolen factory.

I would not have guessed that this used to be the trackside of a train depot.

Turning the other direction, you can see the grade for the railroad.

The grain elevator in John's photo expanded to be a Cargill truck-to-barge operation.

I wonder what the name of this crane-on-a-barge operation is. Or was this a staging area for the rehabilitation of the IL-17 Bridge over the Illinois River?
