This aerial photo (circa 1954) captured a unique view of the south part of Troy, once the heart of passenger and freight rail transportation in the city! From this location, many left to join the armed forces during WWII and it is the backdrop for the Troy Canteen Girls story. #localhistorymatters
In the picture:
B & O Railroad Depot (still standing) and tracks,
New York Central (Big Four) Depot (small rectangular building) and tracks
Railroad Restaurant (in the cluster of the three)
City Transfer building, a part of which is now the Troy Community Thrift Store.
The perspective of the camera is southwest from near the old Gummed Products/St. Regis Facility. The New York Depot was razed in the mid-1980s. Near the upper middle portion of the image is South Crawford St., while the New York Central tracks run east and west from the lower left to the upper right.

TheL-shape of the B&O depot, if not an accurate location, is marked on this map.

A satellite caught a CSX train coming through town. I'm surprised the connector still exists west of Crawford Street. I guess someone doesn't want to pay to remove the tracks from the street.
