The Merrimac Ferry is a free, state-run cable ferry that has been carrying vehicles across the Wisconsin River since 1844. It connects Merrimac and Okee using underwater steel cables to guide it — no steering wheel needed. 📷: Aaron Johnson

Becky Haag posted three photos with the comment: "The Colsac III is the only free ferry in Wisconsin, crossing the Wisconsin River at Merrimac. The ferry is on both the National and Wisconsin Historic Register. The C&NW railroad trestle crosses next to it, and we were extremely lucky to see a little train crossing it in 2022."
