"Early on, Lehigh Valley Railroad had a couple of small shops in Sayre. In 1904, the second largest locomotive building in the world was built in Sayre. The BIG SHOPS covered six acres or 283,140 square feet under one roof. The building was so immense, it took ten years to complete. The BIG SHOPS produced 277 locomotives along with freight cars and cabooses." [SayreHistoricalSociety]

| Gregg Obst posted The Sayre Railroad passenger Station was built by the Lehigh Valley Railroad in 1881 and features a Queen Anne style of architecture. The building is now run by the Sayre Historical Society who signed a 99 year lease in 2022 and is operating their museum in the building. After extensive renovations the station is a beautiful representation of what historical preservation can accomplish and the station is one of the nicest in Pennsylvania. The first level features permanent displays, a gift shop, admission area and restroom. The second floor is home to rotating displays a library, meeting and office space along with archive storage and a fireproof safe room to protect Sayre's most important documents and artifacts. 8-9-2026. |
