Across River Street from the depot was the "longest covered railroad bridge in the country."

This feed mill is modern because they had to first move the depot to get enough land for this feed mill. The feed truck on the left is parked on former depot land.

"This railroad station was originally located at Depot Street, one-third of a mile North of here on the main line of the Central Vermont Railway. The depot was shared by the Central Vermont and the St. J. & L.C. Railroads. It's last 20 years on Depot St. it served as the Abenaki Tribal Council Headquarters. Destined for demolition, it was saved and moved on September 14, 1999, to this location where it now serves as the home of the Swanton Historical Society....The Grand Opening was celebrated on November 13, 2002."

The site of the museum was a railyard, and they have preserved some remnants of the turntable pit.

In 2019, the museum was renamed the Ronald F. Kilburn Transportation Museum when Ron retired as president of the historical society. [samessenger (This source says the depot was moved in 1998.)]

That was a big elevator in the horse-and-wagon days.

The Central Vermont mainline is now owned by the New England Central Railroad (NECR). [gwrr] We see a couple of hoppers spotted at the elevator, so this shortline does provide rail service. I wonder if they also serve the lumber company.
