SOO/C&NW crossing near Rice Lake WI. Bryan Much had an excellent photo spread on this location. Here is a shot from 9-3-85. A group of us from SE WI were headed for the Twin Ports for some railfanning, weather was poor and as we drove north, we decided to see if the tower was still there. We found it, drove in and were about to leave when we heard a horn.  The Soo run into Rice Lake showed up. Conductor came down and flagged the crossing.

Dennis W Russett posted five photos with the comment: "Switching Tower still standing along the former C&NW line that ran from Eau Claire, WI to Superior WI. The tower is located between Cameron and Rice Lake, WI. The Line is now owned by CN. The Soo Line used to cross the C&NW here on its way up to Rice Lake WI. Rice Lake was served by 2 Railroads up til the late 80's or early 90's. The Soo used to run up through Rice Lake, Mikana, Birchwood, Edgewater, up to Reserve."

Its isolation probably explains why it doesn't have any graffiti. There is not even an access road.

The Soo abandoned the route through and northeast of Rice Lake by 1951. The dotted line in the northeast corner of this excerpt is labeled Old Railroad Grade.
