Mt. Dora, FL: Chamber of Cmmerce/ACL Depot

Depot: (Satellite, 153 photos)

Street View, Aug 2022

Nick Schaut posted three photos with the comment:
Ex Jacksonville-Tampa and Key West (JT&KW), ex Atlantic Coast Line passenger and freight station complete with a semaphore signal in downtown Mt Dora, Florida, now repurposed as the town’s Chamber of Commerce building.
The last passenger train came through in 1950 and the last citrus train departed in 1973.
Dion Williams: Who owns this rail line?
Michael Parker: Dion Williams Florida Central
Jason Maier: Rare to see a semaphore signal still standing.
George A. Neal Jr.: Tourist trains ran til Covid and Central FL RR terminated their lease.
Eric Liscom: The tourist operation can come back...FCEN is the main problem...
FCEN cancelled the lease...it had more to do with selling to the county for a bike trail...for $23 million...
Either CSX or FCEN kept raising the price, changing the deal, etc and crashed the deal....the county had the funds in hand via a Grant....
The actual value of the line...as a railroad...is about $2 million...
See the problem?
We've offered multiple times to lease, to buy, lease/own, etc, etc...
It can be bought, but it involves having to fight FCEN and CSX...we have a very good case to win... it would be easier and a bit cheaper if they'd negotiate and everyone would come out happier....but, that's not how FCEN operates...sad...
So, now we are just raising funds for a final push...
Check out our page on Facebook..."Bring back the Mount Dora railroad "
If you want to get involved...
[A comment indicates that FCEN uses the track to store "TTX center beam/high cube boxcars."]
