(Satellite)

An extant IC interlocking tower is just a few blocks south of here.

Before the tracks were elevated and electrified.

The Railroad Depot in Homewood, Illinois, 1909 was an Illinois Central Railroad (IC) Station, which was a primary transportation artery for the region. This station was replaced in 1923 by a larger structure that is still in use today as the Amtrak station.
Peter J Fee: The Homewood train station has been rebuilt recently and continues to serve both METRA & AMTRAK trains as well as PACE buses. It is fully accessible from the east & west with ramps and elevators to train platforms.
Randy Olson: and it was on the EAST side of the tracks..

Recently found myself at the newly renovated Homewood Metra/Amtrak station. Hadn't been here in years... they did a nice job with the remodel.
It was nice to see they kept some of the original Amtrak signage. Question is.... On the left side of the word "Homewood" what city used to be there? On the right side it clearly says that Chicago is 23 miles, but what city was on the left? You can clearly see that they painted over it. I'm sure whatever city it was dated back to the days of the old Illinois Central.
