Sipe's Corner, IL: Northeast quadrant of IL-64 and IL-251/51 and Tornado Damage

(Satellite)

The Ogle County Historical Society posted 15 photos with the comment: "At the intersection of Highways 51 and 64, the iconic establishment of Sipe's Corner was built at the end of the Prohibition era.  Once Highway 64 was built connecting Chicago and the western side of Illinois, this intersection saw more traffic than any other location in Northern Illinois.  The Sipe family built the first gas station there and eventually expanded to include an entire truck stop / restaurant.  Known for the good food and great service, any famous bands would stop there to eat while them traveled across the county. As the roads around it expanded, the lot it sat on was enlarged to accommodate the bigger semi tractor and trailers traveling through. The original buildings remained until the the 2015 tornado tore them down. Although the ownership of the plot changed once Harold Sipe retired and sold, the location still remains a 'country' eating place now called Grubsteakers."
[There are several comments by people who used to work there.]
