Elevators: (Satellite)
Today this spot is just about right underneath an ugly concrete highway bridge. CP Romeo with it's great old swing bridge and bridge approach; its Seed and grain silos that stood until the mid-90's I believe. A really good railfanning spot, especially in 1991, as in this photo. Romeoville, IL.

Dennis DeBruler commented on Jerry's post I always enjoy it when you catch that elevator. I tried getting some photos from that spot, but someone came out and told me that I could not be there because it is dangerous because of the electric barrier for the Asian Carp. Fortunately, they leave me alone if I'm south of the road crossing. This is one of the few isolated crossings in the area that is not in a quiet zone. (20190801 8785) |

Jerry Jackson posted another batch of photos with the comment: "These are from the Summer of 1990 at the old street crossing that is now East Romeo Road (135th St.) at CP Romeo, Romeoville, IL. The only thing still at this location is the track and that green metal building behind that wonderful grain operation."
Jerry Jackson posted a similar batch of photos with the comment: "B40-8 530 westbound, screams past the wonderful, old, now gone, elevators at CP Romeo, Romeoville, IL. This is from the Fall of 1991. The elevators would be in the lower RH corner of the Google Maps image."

Geoffrey Baer's Chicago (WTTW) posted The I&M Canal Commissioners named the town "Romeo" in 1835 thinking it would be a nice partner for a canal town downstream called Juliet. Who says bureaucrats don’t have a sense of humor? When Juliet changed its name to Joliet in 1845, Romeo residents adopted the name Romeoville. Richard Fiedler shared |
