Mississippi River Flood of 1952 - Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Freight House
Here's another photograph of the '52 flood taken from the levee (south) side of the C.B. & Q. Freight House, which was located on the southeast corner of Perry and East River streets. Also in view on the left are International Harvester Co., 118 W. River Street, and Lagomarcino-Grupe Company, wholesale fruits and ice cream, on the southeast corner of Brady and East River streets. Above the freight house is the tower of the Davenport Bank and Trust Company at Third and Main streets.

Hi everyone. Here’s an article from 1952 in my hometown. I don’t recall seeing this building, but though I’d share. It would have been located a few blocks east of Davenport’s Union Station that served the Burlington, Milwaukee and DRI&NW.
The Milwaukee had their own freight house across Ripley Street from the Union Station. I don't know where the DRI&NW was.
A common signature of freight houses is that they have a two story part on one end for office space and a longer, one-story part with lots of doors for freight handling.

A Chicago, Burlington, & Quincy Railroad train passes slowly through floodwaters on Davenport's riverfront. This photo was taken on June 25, 1880 between Pershing and Perry Streets. At this time, the tracks did not pass under the Government Bridge.
[The freight house is in the left background.]
Ryan Orr: What route did the tracks take since they did not pass under the bridge? And, what year were they re-routed? I cannot recall.
Retro Quad Cities: Ryan Orr The railroad passed at the Iowa end of the Government Bridge for a short time along 2nd St. They were eventually rerouted on their current trackage in 1930.

The Flood of 2019 is now on the Mar 2022 satellite map. Note that there is water past US-67 so the CB&Q freight house would have been in the water.

This was during the Spring 2023 flood. And this is after the rails were raised in the 2019 flood. I caught it "plowing water." Somewhere I read that the traction motors are high enough that they can go through 6" of water above the rails. Also, this engine might be off and the train is being pushed through these waters from the rear.

Is this before the railroad tracks were built along the river?

Flood of 2024

This is one of the flood incidents of 2024.

Jul 6:  All that work by CP to raise their tracks paid off. Note the red roller gates on Dam #15 are all the way up, as they should be.
