The Rock Island Depot in Atlantic, IA is now home to the Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce.

This Renaissance style depot was built in 1898 for the Rock Island Railroad and is now listed on the National Historic Register.

In the fall of 1970, I was home for the weekend, and as always, would spend as much time at the Rock Island Depot in Atlantic, IA, where my Dad had been the Agent since December of 1951. I had become a photographer for the college yearbook, and was not used to black and white film, but was doing some experimenting around the depot, and took this shot of Dad through the bars of the middle ticket window. Train order forks, phone and line patch-board, lunch box, Engine 4803 outside of the left window, etc. Things that were so commonplace then, but extra fun for me to look at now. And of course a photo of Dad who passed away in 2002. Rik Anderson photo.
