Martin O'Connor Wasn't it incorporated into Joliet Auto Parts? It was basically a salvage yard and auto parts business. I think I was there at least twice, but don't remember whether any part of the original building remained.

Here it is in Oct 1948. Thanks for sharing!

The Milwaukee Road did run to Joliet Illinois, the 37-mile branch to Delmar was the largest segment left of the Chicago, Milwaukee & Gary. Photo taken in 1976 by Joseph Petric
Pete Zimmermann: Abandoned July 17th, 1978 Erich Riemer: It also served the Joliet arsenal, branch that parallels the Wabash going south from the interchange in Manhattan.. Mike SchattL: The MILW's Joliet Branch ended alongside the EJ&E yard. Trains would use EJ&E trackage to reach the other segment at Aurora, IL before that line was abandoned. Then the MILW would use the EJ&E at Spaulding and head south to E. Joliet to regain home trackage.

Early 60's USGS shows it coming into Joliet west of the EJ&E and finally joining up with it near the I-80 overhead.

The white line across the top should be Washington Street and the grey line along the right should be the EJ&E. The Milwaukee/Chicago, Milwaukee & Gary line joined the EJ&E just south of Washington and used trackage rights to get to Aurora. I put a red rectangle around the only thing big enough to be the this building.

Update: If you click on this 1966 aerial photo near the top middle, you can see the white roofed building next to a diagonal track. The photo also shows how the CM&G paralleled the EJ&E into Joliet. You can also see the I-80 bridges have been built over the railroads and Rowell Avenue, but the roads have yet to be built.

Please clarify, is that the Milw. Rd. (CM&G) rails shown at the bottom L/S that travel up past the west side of Michigan Beach? Newly built I-80 east/west overpasses shown.

This yard was south of Washington Street and immediately east of the EJ&E main line.

The north end of this yard (bottom of photo) is where it joined EJ&E for the trackage rights to Aurora.

Martin O'Connor A couple of spurs are still indicated in Google Map view, north of the lake.

Martin has contributed other items in the comments to the posting such as 1955 and 1963 topo maps.

Christian Goepel posted two images with the comment: "Recently acquired a CMStP&P station valuation map of the former CM&G at Joliet. Original valuation occurred in 1916; this version was corrected to 1935. Capture shows the former CM&G immediately south of East Washington Street, including the freight house."
